Window and door screen repair and rescreening

Torn or worn screens can be repaired, rescreened or replaced. Rescreening happens in our shop.

North Hill Glass and Mirror repairs, rescreens and replaces window screens and door screens. Rescreening is done in our shop, so the screen frame comes to us at 560 N. Main St in Akron. The phone number is (330) 535-1558. If a screen is torn, loose or worn out, call and tell us what you have.

What a screen job involves

A screen is a frame with a sheet of mesh stretched across it. The mesh lets air through and keeps insects out. Over time the mesh can tear, sag or come loose from the frame, and the frame can bend.

Rescreening means putting new mesh on a frame that is still usable. The old mesh and the cord or strip that holds it are taken out, the new mesh is stretched across, and it is secured. When the frame itself is too damaged to reuse, a replacement screen is the other route.

What we do

  • We repair window screens and door screens.
  • We rescreen frames with new mesh. Rescreening is done in our shop.
  • We replace window screens and door screens when a repair is not the right answer.

Since rescreening is done in the shop, plan on getting the screen to us. Call before you come in, so we know what you are bringing and can talk about the job.

Screens are the lightest of our window jobs. If the glass in a window is broken, see window glass repair. For the rest of our window work, see window glass replacement.

What to have ready when you call

  • How many screens you have, and whether they belong to windows or doors.
  • The size of each screen. Measure the frame from outside edge to outside edge, both width and height.
  • A photo of the screen showing the damage. A photo of the whole frame is useful too.
  • What the problem is: a tear, a loose edge, a bent frame or missing pieces.
  • Whether you have the screen in hand. Most window screens lift out of the window, and the shop needs the frame to rescreen it.

If you have several screens, label them with tape so you know which window each came from. That saves a step when you get them back in.
