What a glass table top is

A glass table top is a piece of glass that rests on a base or frame. It might be a coffee table top, a dining table top, a side table or a tabletop that sits over wood to protect it. Some bases hold the glass in a recess. Others support it on pads, on a rim or on a few points.

How the glass sits matters. A top with a recess has to match the recess. A top that rests on pads can overhang the base by some amount. Looking at your base and measuring the part that holds the glass will tell you which sort you have.

What to have ready when you call

• The size and shape you want. For a round top, the diameter. For other shapes, the longest and shortest measurements.
• A paper pattern for any shape that is not a rectangle or circle.
• A photo of the base from above and from the side, so we can see how the glass is held.
• The size of any recess the glass fits into.
• The size of the old top, if you are replacing one. If it has broken, collect the pieces carefully or take photos before you clean up.
• The edge you want.

If you cannot measure the base yourself, a photo with a tape measure laid across it will often do.
