Glass cut to size, safety glass, edges, holes and notches
Glass made to your measurements, with safety glass for doors, windows and tables.
North Hill Glass and Mirror makes glass to your size, including safety glass for doors, windows and tables, with polished edges, holes or notches when the job calls for them. The shop is at 560 N. Main St in Akron, and you can reach us at (330) 535-1558. Call with your measurements and tell us where the glass is going.
What made-to-size glass means
Made to size means the piece is produced to match your measurements rather than taken from a standard sheet size. Door glass, window glass and table glass all work this way, because each opening or frame has its own dimensions.
Safety glass is the kind used where breakage would be a hazard, such as in doors, in some windows and in table tops. Tempered glass is one common type. It is strengthened by a heat treatment, and it cannot be cut, drilled or notched after that treatment. For that reason, the size, the holes and the notches are decided before the glass is treated, and it is why we ask for exact measurements up front.
We offer tempered safety glass in custom glass. It is 4 to 8 times stronger than regular glass, and it is used for patio doors, patio tables and similar places.
What we offer
- Glass made to size for doors, windows, tables and other places that need safety glass.
- Tempered safety glass, for patio doors, patio tables and similar places.
- Polished edges.
- Holes and notches.
We make glass to size for the job you describe. Safety glass for doors, windows and tables is part of that, and so are the edge work, the holes and the notches. For table glass specifically, see glass table tops. For shelves, see glass shelves. The wider custom glass group lists the other things we make.
What to have ready when you call
- Where the glass is going: a door, a window, a table or something else.
- The exact width and height, measured twice. For a piece that replaces broken glass, measure the opening or the old piece.
- The shape. For anything with curves or corners cut away, send a full size paper pattern or a clear drawing.
- For holes: how many, the size of each, and how far each one sits from the edges.
- For notches: the size of each and where it goes.
- The edge you want. A polished edge is the common choice.
- How many pieces.
- Photos of the space or of the old piece.
Exact numbers matter more here than anywhere else. If any measurement is a guess, say which one.
Common jobs
Most made-to-size glass jobs fall into a few groups. One is replacement glass for a door, a window or a piece of furniture whose glass has broken. Another is new glass for a place that has none, such as a shelf in a new cabinet or a panel in a new frame. A third is a table or a desk that needs a protective top.
In each case the process is the same. You send the size and the use, we confirm what is needed, and the piece is made to match. If you are not sure whether your job is a cut glass job or belongs on another page, the custom glass overview lists the other things we make, and a phone call can sort out the rest.
