What a mirror job looks like
A mirror is a piece of glass with a reflective coating on the back, cut to a size and finished at the edges. Most mirror jobs start with a measurement. How wide, how tall, what shape, and what the edges should look like are the questions that shape everything else.
We handle mirrors in several forms, from a plain rectangle over a bathroom vanity to a wall of mirror in a workout room. Each form has its own page, so you can read the one that matches your project.
The kinds of mirror work we do
Bathroom and vanity mirrors. These are mirrors sized to the wall space over a vanity or a sink. The wall around the mirror often has lights, outlets or a window frame to work around, so the page on bathroom mirrors lists the measurements and the obstacles we ask about.
Full wall and gym mirrors. These are large mirrors for gyms, workout rooms and home spaces, where the mirror covers much of a wall. A mirror this size is planned around the wall, the doors and the way the pieces meet, so the details matter more than on a small mirror.
Custom cut mirrors. This covers framed or hanging mirrors cut to a size or shape you choose, and also a new mirror for a frame you already have. If the glass in a good frame has been damaged, the frame can often go on being used with fresh glass.
Beveled mirrors and polished edges. These are the edge finishes we offer. They apply to bathroom mirrors, wall mirrors and mirrors that are part of furniture, and they change the look of a mirror more than people expect.
Not every job fits neatly into one of those groups. If your project falls between two of them, call and describe it, and we will sort out where it belongs.
Picking between them
The simplest way to choose is to start with where the mirror will live. A mirror above a sink points to the bathroom page. A mirror along a whole wall of a workout room points to the full wall page. A mirror that has to be a certain shape, or has to fit a frame you own, points to the custom cut page. The edge finish is a separate choice that applies to any of them.
Size shapes the rest of the job. Small and medium mirrors can often be hung with simple hardware. A very large mirror needs more thought about how it is held and how it gets through the door of the room. That is a good reason to tell us the room, the wall and the route in when you call.
What to have ready when you call
- What the mirror is for and where it will go.
- The width and height, and the shape if it is not a plain rectangle. A paper outline works for odd shapes.
- How you want the edges finished, flat and polished or beveled.
- How many mirrors you need.
- A photo of the wall or the frame, or a sketch of the plan.
The more of this you can pass along, the less we have to ask. Do not worry if you are missing a few items.
