Glass railings for stairs, decks and balconies

Glass railings for stairs, decks and balconies. Call to talk about your project.

North Hill Glass and Mirror installs glass railings for stairs, decks and balconies. The shop is at 560 N. Main St in Akron, and the phone number is (330) 535-1558. Call and describe where the railing goes, how long it is and what it needs to look like.

What a glass railing is

A glass railing uses panels of glass in place of the bars or balusters in a traditional railing. The glass lets you see through to the view or the room beyond. Railings of this kind are used along staircases, around decks and patios, on balconies and at the edge of a mezzanine or an upper floor.

The glass panels are held by posts, by a base channel at the floor, or by clips and fittings at the edges. There are different ways to do it, and which one suits a project depends on where it goes and what it is attached to. A deck railing and an indoor stair railing are different jobs, even though both use glass.

What we offer

We do glass railings for stairs, decks and balconies. Every railing project has its own requirements, and they are worth raising when you call.

Railings can go in with other glass work in the same building. For glass walls inside an office, see glass partitions. For the doors and the front of a business, see commercial entrance doors and the overview of commercial storefront glass.

We handle residential and commercial work, so a railing at a home and one at a business are both fair questions.

What to have ready when you call

  • Where the railing goes: a staircase, a deck, a balcony or another edge.
  • Inside or outside.
  • The total length, or the length of each run. For a staircase, the length along the slope and the height you want.
  • Whether posts or a top rail already exist, and what they are made of. A photo of the area helps.
  • What the railing attaches to: concrete, wood, metal or another surface.
  • Whether you want a particular look, such as no top rail, or a railing with posts. A sketch or a photo of one you like helps.
  • Whether the project is at a home or a business.
  • Drawings, if the job is part of a larger plan.

Walk the space with a tape measure if you can, and take photos from a few angles.
