What door glass work is

A storm door is a lighter door mounted outside the main door. Its glass panel can crack, and the panel is often a replaceable piece. An entry door is the main door of a home. Many entry doors have a section of glass, sometimes plain and sometimes decorative, with a pattern, a design or textured surface.

When the glass in either one breaks or fails, the usual fix is to take out the damaged piece and fit a new one in the same opening. The door itself stays. That is what this service is about.

What to have ready when you call

• A photo of the whole door from the outside, plus a close photo of the broken glass.
• The size of the glass, if you can measure it. Measure the visible part, from edge to edge.
• Whether it is a storm door or an entry door.
• If the glass is decorative, a photo of the pattern, taken straight on, in good light, and any other pieces of it that you still have.
• Whether the glass is held in with a removable frame or a trim piece, if you can tell.
• How many glass pieces the door has and how many are damaged.

Take care with a cracked door panel. Keep the area clear until the glass is replaced.
