Glass shelves cut to size
Glass shelves cut to the length and depth you need, for homes and businesses.
North Hill Glass and Mirror cuts glass shelves to size for homes and businesses. Our shop is at 560 N. Main St in Akron, and the phone number is (330) 535-1558. Tell us the length and depth of the shelf, how it will be held and what it will carry, and send a photo.
What a glass shelf is
A glass shelf is a flat piece of glass that rests on supports. The supports might be brackets on a wall, pins in the side of a cabinet, clips or the edges of a metal frame. Glass shelves are used in bathrooms, display cabinets, curio cabinets, bookcases, kitchens and shops.
Light passes through a glass shelf, which is one reason people pick glass for display areas. It also shows dust, so some people choose to keep the surface clear of clutter.
The supports decide a lot about the shelf. A shelf that rests on four pins has to be sized to the space between the sides of the cabinet, with a little room to spare. A shelf held by brackets has to be long enough to reach both of them. Knowing which kind of support you have helps us make the piece right.
What we offer
- Glass shelves cut to size for homes and businesses.
- Polished edges, and holes or notches if your supports need them. See cut to size and safety glass for that kind of work.
If the shelves are inside a cabinet with glass doors or a display case, our page on cabinet, furniture and display case glass covers the rest of that kind of job.
What to have ready when you call
- The length and depth of each shelf, measured twice.
- How the shelf is held up: brackets, pins, clips, a frame or something else. A photo of the support helps.
- The size and position of any holes or notches the shelf needs.
- Where the shelf goes: a bathroom, a cabinet, a wall or a store display.
- What will sit on it. Heavy items change the conversation, so mention them.
- How many shelves you need.
- The edge you want.
If you are replacing a shelf that has broken, the old piece is the most useful guide. Save it or photograph it with a tape measure beside it.
