We replace the glass in patio and sliding doors. Send a photo and the size of the glass.
North Hill Glass and Mirror replaces the glass in patio doors and sliding doors. The shop is at 560 N. Main St in Akron, and the number is (330) 535-1558. If a panel in your sliding door is cracked, broken or foggy, call and send us a photo along with the size of the glass.
What patio and sliding door glass is
A sliding patio door has one or more large glass panels held in frames that slide along a track. The glass is a big piece compared with a window, which is why a break is so noticeable and why measuring it correctly matters. A hinged patio door, often called a French door, holds glass in a door that swings.
The service we are describing is glass replacement. The door stays, the frame stays, and the glass is changed. That is usually the fix when a panel breaks and the rest of the door still works.
Many sliding door panels are built like windows, with two layers of glass sealed together. If your panel has turned foggy between the layers, the same idea applies as with a window: the sealed unit has failed. Read our page on insulated glass units for how that works.
What we offer
We replace glass in patio and sliding doors. The scope of what we are describing here is the glass itself. Complete door units are not part of that description, so if you are looking for a whole new door, ask us when you call and we will tell you what we can do.
Other door glass jobs have their own pages. For storm doors and entry doors, including decorative glass, see storm and entry door glass. For regular windows, see window glass repair.
What to have ready when you call
- A photo of the whole door, taken from inside the room, and one from outside if you can.
- A close photo of the break or the fogged area.
- The size of the glass. If you can measure only the visible glass, give us that, and tell us it is the visible part.
- How many panels are affected, and whether the door slides or swings.
- Whether the glass is clear, tinted or patterned.
- Any marking or label you can see near the edge of the glass, with a photo of it.
Large glass is awkward to handle. If a panel is cracked but still in the door, leave it alone and keep people and pets away from it until we talk.
