Glass aquarium lids

Custom glass lids for aquariums, cut to your tank and your cutouts.

North Hill Glass and Mirror makes custom glass lids for aquariums. The shop is at 560 N. Main St in Akron, and the phone number is (330) 535-1558. Send us the size of the top of your tank and the cutouts you need, along with a photo.

What an aquarium lid is

An aquarium lid covers the open top of a fish tank. It keeps pets and objects out, slows evaporation and keeps fish from jumping out. Glass lids are a common choice because they are clear and let light in.

Tank tops are rarely a simple rectangle. Many have a brace across the middle, a plastic rim around the edge, or both. A lid must sit on the rim without being so large that it hangs over the edge, and it often needs a notch or hole for a filter, a heater cord, a light or a feeding spot. Many people use two smaller panels so one can lift while the other stays in place.

What we offer

We make custom glass lids for aquariums. That means cut to the tank, and cut with the openings your equipment needs. The work is the same kind of glass cutting described on our page about cut to size and safety glass, which also covers polished edges, holes and notches.

If you are looking for a shelf or another small piece for around the tank, see glass shelves. The full set of custom glass work is gathered in one place.

What to have ready when you call

  • The length and width of the top of the tank, measured across the outside of the rim.
  • The size of any brace, and where it runs.
  • The width of the rim around the top edge, since the lid rests on it.
  • Where cutouts go, with the size of each: filter, heater, lights, air line or a spot for feeding.
  • Whether you want one panel or two, and how they should split.
  • Whether you want a handle or finger notch.
  • A photo of the top of the tank, taken straight down.
  • The edge you want. Polished edges are a common choice.

If the tank is already holding water and fish, measure carefully and do not move it. A photo with a tape measure lying across the top gives most of what we need.
