What swing, hinged and pivot doors are

A swing door, also called a hinged door, is attached on one side and swings open. It is hinged to a wall or to a fixed glass panel. A pivot door turns on pivot points at the top and bottom of the door, instead of on hinges along its edge.

All of these doors need room to open. Before you choose one, look at what is near the shower. A vanity, a toilet or a towel rack can be in the way of a swinging door.

The door can be framed, semi-frameless or frameless. Our frameless shower doors page explains the all-glass style, which often uses hinges. The style is one choice. How the door opens is another.

What we offer

We install swing, hinged and pivot shower doors. You can have a hinged door by itself, or beside fixed glass panels and return panels. We also offer corner layouts. See our page on corner and neo-angle shower enclosures for those.

Hardware matters on this kind of door, because the hinges or pivots carry the glass. The finish is your choice. See shower glass and hardware finishes for the full list.

What to have ready when you call

For a hinged door, a few details decide the whole job. Please have these ready.

  • The hinge side. Stand outside the shower, facing it, and tell us whether the hinges go on the left or the right.
  • The swing direction, in or out of the shower.
  • The width and height of the opening, measured at the top, middle and bottom.
  • What is nearby: a vanity, a toilet, a wall or a towel bar the door could hit as it opens.
  • The glass you want and the hardware finish.
  • A photo of the opening, taken straight on, and a photo of the space around it.

We use your details to prepare your quote.
