What a sliding or bypass door is
A sliding door moves sideways along a track. On a bypass door, two glass panels slide past each other, one in front of the other. You step in through the gap when one panel is pushed behind the other.
Because the two panels overlap, the opening you walk through is smaller than the full width of the door. Keep that in mind when you plan a layout.
A barn style slider is a sliding door that hangs from a rail and rolls along it. We include barn style sliders in this service.
A sliding door does not swing out into the room, so it works where there is no space for a hinged door to open. If you want a door that opens on hinges, see our page on swing, hinged and pivot doors.
What we offer
We install sliding and bypass shower doors, including barn style sliders, for showers and for bathtubs. The photo above shows a sliding tub door with a black frame and black handles from the shop.
A sliding door can have a metal frame around its glass. Our framed shower doors page explains that style. You can also read about glass tub enclosures, which covers doors for a bathtub.
If the rollers on your sliding door are worn or broken, we repair existing shower doors. See our shower door repair page.

What to have ready when you call
Have this information ready, and your quote will fit your opening.
- Tub or shower: what the door is going on.
- The width of the opening, measured at the top, middle and bottom. Because walls are not always straight, write down all three numbers.
- The height, measured on both sides of the opening.
- Which end of the door you want to step in through.
- The glass you want and the finish for the frame and handles.
- A photo of the opening, taken straight on, with the whole tub or shower base in view.
We use your details to prepare your quote.
