Sneeze guards and protective glass barriers

Protective glass barriers and sneeze guards, made to the size of your counter.

North Hill Glass and Mirror makes sneeze guards and protective glass barriers to the size of your counter. The shop is at 560 N. Main St in Akron, and the phone number is (330) 535-1558. Send us the counter measurements and a photo of the spot, and we will discuss the job.

What a sneeze guard or barrier is

A sneeze guard is a clear panel set above a counter or a serving area, between the people on each side. A glass barrier is a similar panel used to separate a work area from a waiting area, or to shield a desk, a register or a service window. The glass is clear so people can still see and talk to each other.

These panels are made to fit a particular counter. A guard that is too short leaves a gap, and one that is too long may run into a wall or a fixture. Measuring the counter and thinking about how the panel will be held are the first steps.

What we offer

We make protective glass barriers and sneeze guards to your counter size. Each one is cut to your measurements, so the numbers you send are what the panel is built around.

Clear plastic panels are a different material with their own page: acrylic and polycarbonate sheet. If a barrier needs holes, notches or polished edges, see cut to size and safety glass. The wider custom glass group puts all of this together.

What to have ready when you call

  • The length of the counter or opening the barrier covers.
  • The depth of the counter, since it can affect how the panel sits.
  • The height you want above the counter.
  • How the panel will be held: attached to the counter, set in a base, hung or placed in a frame. A photo of the counter edge helps.
  • Whether there is a cutout, such as an opening to pass items through.
  • The edge you want.
  • How many barriers.
  • A photo of the counter from the front and from the side.

If the barrier is for a business, tell us what kind of counter it is, such as a food counter, a desk or a register.

Keeping the view clear

A barrier is only useful if people can still see and hear each other through it. Think about how high you want the panel and whether you need a gap to pass items through. A panel that is too tall can get in the way of the work, and a panel that is too short leaves open space. Standing at the counter and marking the height with tape is a simple way to settle the question before you call.
